Find a balanced stance

Stand behind the oche in a way that feels stable and repeatable. Keep your weight controlled and avoid lunging toward the board when releasing.

  • Start from the same foot position for each visit.
  • Stay balanced through your follow-through.
  • Keep the throwing lane clear of other players.

Relax the grip

Hold the dart firmly enough that it does not slip, but avoid squeezing. A relaxed release can make it easier to repeat the same motion.

  • Keep your grip position consistent.
  • Aim along a comfortable line of sight.
  • Release rather than pushing or snatching the dart.

Focus on grouping first

A tight group in the wrong part of the board is useful feedback: it suggests a repeatable motion you can adjust. Record where darts land and make small changes over time.

  • Throw three darts at a single segment.
  • Observe the pattern, not just the score.
  • Adjust one element at a time.
