Start with the essentials
All you need to begin is access to a properly installed steel-tip dartboard and a safe, clear throwing space. Borrowing a set of darts is fine while you learn what feels comfortable.
- Practice standing behind the throwing line, called the oche.
- Take three darts per turn, then collect them only when it is safe.
- Let the scorekeeper finish recording the visit before removing your darts.
Learn one game at a time
501 is an approachable place to start: subtract points from 501 until you can finish according to the agreed rules. Standard Cricket focuses on 15 through 20 and the bull.
- Try a few friendly legs of 501.
- Ask your opponent how a double-out finish works.
- Learn Cricket marks before worrying about strategy.
